2011 Sydney to Hobart yatch race: competition is intensified for the finishing line honour, between Investec LOYAL and Wild Oats XI, in what could be one of the closest finishes in history.  More news of the race can be viewed on Foxsports.

Since August, Melbourne has been ranked 1 in The Economist's EIU's 2011 List of World Most Livable Cities. Also in the top 10 are 3 other cities in Australia, namely Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. Now that is a respectable result and something any Australian can be proud of. More details can be seen here and here.

Australia celebrates Mawson Centenary this month.  In Horbart, a Flotilla of 175 boats takes part in the celebration to mark the 100 year anniversary of Douglas Mawson's Antarctic Voyage. More details on this Australian pioneer and the tribute celebration can be found here, and also here.

Inspirational is the word to describe Terry O'Hare's long list of achievements in his life endeavour. He has designed and built many things, some are well-known,  from the Mad Max cars, the world's largest flag, to world land speed record vehicles, a floating marina and teapots! Very good job to Mark Webber for winning the 2011 Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix. This was his first and long awaited win of the season. Well-done!

Congratulations to Kylie Minogue and the Wiggles for being inducted into this year Aria Awards' Hall of Fame. The 2011 Aria Awards was held yesterday at the Allphones Arena in Sydney. President Obama departed Darwin for Bali this evening. He was the fifth serving US president to visit Australia, but the first to touch down on the country's northern most capital city. The tour lasted less than 2 hours but nevertheless was of significant proportion.
